“The whole is other than the sum of the parts.” – Kurt Koffka
When we see a group of objects, we perceive their entirety before we see the individual shapes. A photo exhibit opening in Chelsea explores how we interpret the meaning contained in shapes – as they transform into icons and symbols.
Unique, odd, and sometimes beautiful, the antique wooden foundry artifacts presented in a series of photographs by Adrien Duey have been reassembled by the artist to create new shapes – new meanings. The photo exhibit “Foundry [reassembled)” is a collection of twenty six photographs that invite the viewer to interpret and play with the newly created shapes.
The photographer’s collection of Foundry Patterns (the wooden shapes used to create molds in the foundry casting process) includes a diverse range of shapes, textures, and sizes. Originally destined to become metal parts, any single artifact is only a piece in the puzzle, as it may not be evident what role it played in the final assembly. Chosen for their distinctive character and shape, the hand-made wooden artifacts were grouped to create new shapes, and placed on backgrounds painted and transformed by the artist.
Originally from Montreal, Adrien Duey is an established, award winning photographer (Applied Arts, New York Art Directors Club, etc., and twice nominated for Junos for album art). Adrien relocated to Almonte and teaches at SPAO (School of the Photographic Arts: Ottawa).

Currently at La Fab: Kaisa Lindfors - Small Stories
June 30 2016
It is our pleasure to invite you to our next exhibition in the La Fab gallery: "Small Stories." This show features paintings, drawings and ceramic work by Kaisa Lindfors.
"Small Stories is a show that spans over my three dominant mediums: painting drawing and ceramics. My work isabout storytelling and I am searching to create narratives that are detailed and specific to time and place but which also remain ambiguous and dreamlike. I am interested in exploring the idea of an emotional reality –one that can be skewed by our own perceptions and emotional experiences to places and memories, and I try to translate these distortions into my drawing and painting."
For more information about her work, please visit her website at http://www.kaisalindfors.com.
The show begins on June 30th and will run until July 26th, 2016.
The Vernissage will take place on Saturday July 2nd from 5pm to 8pm. Everyone is welcome!
