An Exhibition by Katharine Fletcher & Heather Lamorie
July 27 to August 20, 2017
Vernissage: Thursday, July 27, 5 pm to 7 pm.
Two artists. Two visions of animals' spirituality, energy and mystery.
Quyon’s Katharine Fletcher and Chelsea’s Heather Lamorie believe every animal possesses a spirit which they honour and enjoy interpreting. They perceive how the spirit world lingers in the physical and ethereal realms, where they love creating vivid impressions of animals’ physical power and commanding spiritual presence.
Fletcher has loved and drawn horses in particular since she was four, and been riding since she was seven years old. For this avid horsewoman, horses are her animal totem, representing freedom, individuality, power, and grace. “Oh and yes, perhaps a certain willfulness,” she admits.
Lamorie says her Ojibwa grandfather greatly influenced her. She notes, “Although I’ve not been taught native imagery, I began drawing and painting native animal compositions when I was young. Years later, these images are part of my style.”
When visiting Animal Spirits, you’ll find Fletcher’s multi-coloured Spirit Horses galloping over her canvases, ceramics, and collograph prints amid fantastical swirling landscapes. Meanwhile, Lamorie’s bears, fish and other creatures most certainly command your attention in equal measure.
Both artists invite you to view their show. Their collaboration included painting together so as to share their visions and be inspired with one another’s artistic energy to push through to new levels of work. So come! Experience how their works suggest the essence of bear, turtle, tiger, dragon and phoenix.
Do not miss their vernissage on Thursday, July 27, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
