Contrast and Balance
Geneviève Belzile's Exhibition from August 24 to September 17, 2017
VERNISSAGE: Thursday, August 24, 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
In her exhibition "Contrast and Balance" presented at La Fab from August 24 to September 17, 2017, multidisciplinary artist Geneviève Belzile continues her exploration of atmospheres under tension.
"My work in visual arts seeks to illustrate a tension, a balance between two poles: one being the formal use of representative visual elements - portraits, landscapes, elements of nature – and the second being a subjectively narrative evocation that contrasts with the figuration of the first," explains Genevieve. Through her visual choices, she creates contrasts between narrative and formal points of view. By playing with textures, colours and free associations of themes, she assembles compositions presenting an opposing but also a new and formal equilibrium.
Always fascinated by the challenge of combining media, Geneviève mixes etching, engraved wood, lithography and digital engraving with painting, collage and drawing to create beautiful artworks reminiscent of precious tapestries. The characters who haunt her canvases seem straight out of her imagination.
Growing up in the lower St. Lawrence region of Quebec, Geneviève Belzile, has lived in Gatineau since 1980. She studied fine arts at UQAM, at the School of Architecture and Visual Arts of la Cambre in Brussels, and at Laval University, where she completed her training in art education and art history. She taught visual arts at the Cégep de l'Outaouais and UQO before retiring in 2010. Geneviève has participated in group exhibitions in several institutions, including the Musée du Québec, the Musée des beaux-arts de Montréal, and several French museums during a travelling exhibition. Some of her works can be found in the collections of the Musée du Québec and the Ministère des Affaires intergouvernementales du Québec.
Geneviève Belzile welcomes you to her vernissage on Thursday, August 24, between 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.
