Memory of the Past
An Exhibition by Johanne Sylvestre
November 2 to November 26, 2017
Vernissage: Thursday, November 2, 2017 - 5pm to 7pm
Showing at La Fab from November 2 to 26, 2017, Memory of the Past presents the works of Johanne Sylvestre, an artist who has taken up her brushes after a career as a graphic designer.
The spontaneity of abstract painting allows Johanne to share images from her childhood dreams. Favouring large format canvasses, she superimposes layers of acrylic to create effects of opacity, thickness and transparency. In a whirlwind of brush strokes, she lets her conscious and subconscious dictate the patterns and colours of her paintings, steeped in emotions and imagination. "It's a conversation with the unknown, a constant dialogue between gesture, colour and surface. This allows me to build a new reality," says Johanne.
Originally from Montreal, Johanne Sylvestre has lived in the Outaouais for 30 years. Artist painter, graphic designer and lecturer at the Université du Québec en Outaouais, she is passionate about art, education and culture.
Come and chat with this artist full of infectious energy at her vernissage on Thursday, November 2, from 5 to 7 pm, at La Fab Arts Center in Chelsea.
